NOVEMBER, 2014
November 3: The Belle Fourche Writers Group will be presenting readings at the Belle Fourche Public Library at 7:00 pm. The public is invited to attend these readings of the writers' original works.
November 6 - 12: The Belle Fourche Public Library will honor service members this Veteran's Day with a special veteran's display. A White Table display will be set up. White tables have been displayed in the dining halls of military bases since the Vietnam War to honor the missing in action and prisoners of war. This exhibit was inspired by the children's book "America's White Table" by Margot Theis Raven.
The white tablecloth symbolizes a soldier's pure heart as he or she decides to go off to war. The empty chair symbolizes the soldier's absence from home. The plate is empty except for one lemon wedge, which represents a soldier's biter fate. A white candle shines on a nearby red rose which symbolizes hope that missing soldiers will someday return home. A shaker of salt represents the tears shed for missing service members. A black napkin represents the sorrow of captivity. A turned over glass represents a meal that won't be eaten, while a white candle symbolizes peace.
November 11: The Library will be closed in observance of Veteran's Day.
November 13: The Belle Fourche Public Library is pleased to welcome acclaimed Celtic fingerstyle guitarist Jerry Barlow for a special concert. The event will be held on Thursday Nov. 13 at 7:00 pm at the Community Hall, 508 6th Ave. in Belle Fourche. The program is free to the community.
Barlow is a warm, accessible performer and storyteller. His unique and skillfully delivered repertoire incorporates favorite traditional pieces as well as his own Celtic-inspired compositions. His expressive arrangements of lively jigs, spirited reels, and haunting airs is described as music to soothe the soul, warm the heart and lift the spirit.
He brings traditional Celtic music alive by sharing the history, humor and legends behind the music. His latest CD, "Twas the Night, Songs of Christmas" was released in early 2013 to excellent reviews. Music from all of Barlow's recordings can be heard regularly on National Public Radio stations. He has been featured in Fingerstyle Guitar magazine, and was profiled in the February, 2011 issue of Celtic Connection.
November 18: Story Time will be the third Tuesday this month due to the library being closed on Nov. 11. This is for 3 & 4 year olds at either 10:00 am or 1:30 pm

SEPTEMBER, 2014
Sept. 3 - Oct. 31: EXHIBIT: "Drawn to the Land: Homesteading Dakota": From 1860 to 1920, thousands of homesteaders poured into Dakota from across the country and overseas. Many stayed, making a home for themselves and their descendents, while others came for only a short while before selling out and moving on. For many South Dakotans, homesteading is an intimate family memory and stories of the "home place" are passed from generation to generation. Drawn to the Land tells the story of the homesteading experience in Dakota. Stop in the Library during regular library hours and see this great exhibit!
Sept. 9: Story Time will be held at either 10:00 am or 1:30 pm. This is for 3 & 4 year olds and will have stories, finger plays, cutting & drawing stories, puppet show and more!
